The Fourth of July Parade {2012}

July 16, 2012

We had an insanely busy “Fourth of July” holiday week/weekend, with family from both sides visiting from out of town. And while we loved every minute that we got to spend with all of them, it was also great to be able to sneak in a little family time on the morning of the fourth, doing our own thing as just our little trio and participating in our neighborhood’s annual parade.

We decorated the Radio Flyer wagon that we scored last year with streamers, ribbons, and balloons. Dressed the little man up in a swimsuit, and pulled him through the neighborhood.

It was ridiculously hot that morning, and we had contemplated not going at all. But I’m glad we went, because the little man had an amazing time.

First off, there was a bouncy house. And the little man LOVES jumping.

This picture might be a bit blurry, but his expression says it all. Pure joy.

The parade/party our neighborhood throws was impressive. We had no idea. The parade had a police car escort for the kiddos. Plus, in addition to the bouncy house, there was also a dunk tank, pony rides, face painting, and a few carnival-type games complete with prizes. And like any good party, there was lots and lots of food.

We let the little man try a few new novelty foods. Like cotton candy.

And yummy frozen treats, like a Dairy Queen Starkiss bar.

He loved every last bite. Although, it got more than a little messy, melting quickly in the heat.

He was absolutely determined to finished as much as he could. And hung on to that popsicle stick until every last drip had been licked off.

Needless to say, that t-shirt had a date with the bleach when we got back home…

And, he may have been a little amped up on sugar after that. But it was a really fun time and we still managed to take a much needed naps afterwards.

We didn’t make it to fireworks this year, as the heat and our exhaustion got the best of us. But we did get out to spend some time with family and friends, and our “Fourth” ended up being a pretty great day.

How was your fourth? Anybody else do something new or different this year?
